In 1482, Sister Catherine is murdered in an isolated English convent. You follow Hedwig, an anchoress who has spent years confined to her cell and is the one sister who could not have committed the crime. She is brought into the convent’s daily life to help uncover the killer before the bishop closes it.
The story unfolds through reading conversations, observing the sisters’ relationships, and following clues and secrets as Hedwig encounters a community she knows but has long been apart from. The murder investigation shares space with scenes of ordinary monastic life, religious debate, and psychological unease.
This is a linear visual novel with no story choices or investigation puzzles: advance through the text, accompanied by monochrome character art, backgrounds, and music. Volume One builds the cast and mystery but leaves the central murder unresolved as the first part of a series.
Players often praise the distinctive cast, Hedwig’s perspective, and the writing’s attention to the sisters’ relationships and convent life. The monochrome art and unusual soundtrack are also recurring favorites, as is the slow-building atmosphere of the mystery. Some players enjoy the gradual pace, while others find it slow; several note that the linear story has no choices and Volume One ends without resolving the murder.
