The Shell Part I: Inferno

Set in postwar Tokyo in 1956, the visual novel follows private detective Reiji Tokisaka as he takes on a girl's request to help her find her true self. He is also drawn into investigations of a series of murders, missing students at Oba Girls' Academy, and a case from six years earlier. Players read the story and investigate crime scenes by examining details for clues. Reiji also visits locations around town and speaks with people connected to the cases, building a picture of their relationships and the events behind the disappearances and killings. Choices and character-affinity decisions affect how the story develops and which endings become available. The game uses a day-by-day structure, with different destinations and interactions opening or closing paths through its cases.
