The desperate leadership of a doomed Soviet Union travels back in time to change history and restore the glory of Mother Russia.

After a Soviet attempt to change history goes awry, a new power—the Empire of the Rising Sun—joins the Allies and Soviets in an alternate World War III. Play through a campaign for each faction, with live-action scenes between missions.
Build bases, gather resources, produce armies, and direct units in real-time battles. Combat spans land, air, and sea, and controlling water can open up new ways to attack or establish a base.
The Allies, Soviets, and Empire have distinct units and approaches to warfare. Units have special abilities, while the Empire’s forces include units that can transform between forms. Campaign missions can be played cooperatively.
Players who praise the game often point to its knowingly over-the-top alternate-history tone, memorable live-action scenes, and distinctive units. Reviews also highlight the three faction campaigns, cooperative play, and soundtrack as reasons to return to its fast-paced RTS battles. Some reviews instead criticize balance or report trouble launching and playing the game.

| Multiplayer | Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 supports single-player, skirmish, and multiplayer. The provided information consistently indicates an online co-op campaign for all three faction campaigns, with an AI partner available when playing solo. Online multiplayer still exists through third-party community services because the official GameSpy-based servers were shut down. Reviews also mention skirmish, matchmaking, ladder, tournaments, co-op missions, and LAN play. |
| Multiplayer & mods | Official online servers were shut down. Multiplayer is reported to work via third-party community services such as C&C Online/Revora and RA3BattleNet, which restore online play, co-op, skirmish, matchmaking, and ladder features. Reviews also mention mods, custom maps, and a level editor, but no provided source explicitly states that gameplay mods are required or broadly supported in standard multiplayer matches. |
