We Love It's Guide to…
As hermit crab Kril, explore a polluted ocean, fight with a fork, and wear discarded trash as shells to reclaim your home.
Released 25 Apr 2024
Wear discarded objects such as cans, bottle caps, toys, and other trash as protective shells, with each shell changing your defenses and granting its own ability.
Use a grappling hook to pull enemies toward Kril or propel Kril toward targets and distant surfaces while exploring vertical underwater areas.
Fight with Umami Techniques learned from sea creatures, including attacks inspired by a mantis shrimp and a bobbit worm.
You play as Kril, a hermit crab whose shell has been repossessed, and set out through a collapsing underwater society to recover it. The journey takes you across kelp forests, coral reefs, sand-castle settlements, and deep-sea trenches while uncovering the effects of the ocean’s pollution and the mysterious Gunk.
Combat follows a soulslike structure built around dodging, blocking, parrying, attacks with a fork, and battles against larger sea creatures. Discarded objects serve as shells rather than conventional armor; you can find and switch between many shells, each with different defensive traits, durability, and special abilities. Exploration also includes platforming, shortcuts, secrets, and grappling-hook traversal.
Kril gains Umami Techniques and other abilities learned from sea life, along with upgrades that support different combat approaches. Shell abilities, special attacks, collectibles, and skill-tree improvements provide progression as you move through interconnected underwater environments. Assist options let players adjust the challenge, including an option that provides a powerful handgun shell.

Players who enjoy the game most often highlight its distinctive combination of soulslike combat, colorful 3D platforming, shell-swapping, and underwater environmental themes. Reviews repeatedly praise the humor, visual direction, characters, dialogue, creative bosses, exploration, and the way the pollution setting supports both comedy and more serious ideas. Several players also describe it as an approachable entry point to the genre because of its difficulty options. Other reviews find the combat, camera, platforming, navigation, or physics insufficiently polished, so the game’s appeal is frequently qualified by tolerance for jank and uneven difficulty.
