Torchlight II is an action RPG set in the world of Vilderan. Choose from four classes and travel through an overworld, hub towns, and dungeons as you take on quests and face a growing threat.
Combat centers on fighting groups of enemies with attacks and class skills, then collecting equipment and gold. Randomized layouts, monsters, and loot give areas variation, while main and side quests lead you through the campaign.
Develop your character by gaining levels, learning skills, and finding gear to shape a build. A pet fights alongside you and can carry items to town to sell; fishing can also affect pets. After the campaign, New Game Plus offers another run with greater challenge, and the game supports mods and cooperative play.
Players often enjoy the satisfying combat-and-loot loop, experimenting with class builds, and exploring varied environments. The colorful art style, helpful pets, and mod support are also recurring draws, and some players praise playing cooperatively. Reviews are mixed on multiplayer access, with several describing login or connection problems.

| Multiplayer | Torchlight II supports single-player and cooperative multiplayer over the Internet and via LAN. Official store text states online and LAN multiplayer, matchmaking, and cross-platform multiplayer. The provided descriptions and reviews consistently describe co-op play, not competitive multiplayer, with official co-op sessions supporting up to 6 players. Mods can increase party size beyond the default in some cases. |
| Multiplayer & mods | Steam Workshop mods are supported with automatic subscription and synchronization. Reviews state multiplayer works when players use the same mods, and mods can expand classes, content, and in some cases raise player count from the default 6 to 8. Mod use appears compatible with LAN and online co-op when mod setups match. |
