We Love It's Guide to…

Kingdoms of the Dump

Dustin Binsley, the Trash Can Knight, sets out across the Five and a Half Kingdoms of the Dump as a toxic grimelin army threatens the land. The adventure takes place in a fantasy world built from discarded objects and inhabited by trash-themed characters. Battles are turn-based, with the party and its enemies positioned on separate 3-by-3 grids. Moving around the grid affects damage and defense, while attacks and enemy moves can create harmful or helpful tile effects. Timed inputs let players strengthen attacks or reduce incoming damage. Outside combat, players explore locations and a large world map, jump across obstacles, and switch between party members to use their distinct field abilities. Dungeons include puzzles and secrets; as the journey progresses, characters gain skills and equipment, and optional quests offer further activities.

As Trash Can Knight Dustin, cross garbage-made kingdoms, explore with party abilities, and fight in timed, grid-based battles.

Reviewers often enjoy the imaginative garbage-themed world, its characters and humor, and its retro JRPG presentation, particularly the pixel art and music. Some also appreciate the grid positioning and timed inputs in combat, though others find battles repetitive or lacking depth. A recurring concern is that platforming and collision problems can make exploration frustrating, with some reviewers also describing later sections as sparse or unfinished.
