Talk as a Demon
Long, long ago, there was an ancient kingdom called Ys which prospered under the auspices of two heavenly Goddesses. Over time, the kingdom came to be known as Esteria, and its divine history was largely forgotten by all but the descendants of those who once preached the Goddesses’ will.

This collection contains two linked action RPGs. In Ys I, young swordsman Adol Christin reaches Esteria, a land cut off by storms and overrun by monsters. He searches for six ancient books and investigates the history of the lost kingdom of Ys.
Explore towns, wilderness, and dungeons; speak with residents for clues; find useful items and equipment; and face monsters and bosses. Combat uses collisions instead of an attack button: strike enemies from an angle to hurt them while avoiding a head-on clash.
Ys II continues Adol’s journey in the floating land of Ys and adds magic to combat and exploration. It also lets Adol transform into a demon to speak with standard enemies. The games offer selectable difficulty levels, and the presentation includes different soundtrack versions and character-art styles.
In this helpfulness-selected sample, players often praise the memorable soundtrack and the unusual bump-combat system, which some say becomes enjoyable once they adapt to it. Reviewers also appreciate the compact, old-school adventure and its pixel art. Others find the combat awkward or the games’ age apparent, and complaints about difficult boss fights and unclear navigation recur.
