You play as Rico Rodriguez, returning to the Mediterranean republic of Medici to help resist its rule by General Di Ravello. The open world spans towns, coastlines, mountains, and military-controlled areas.
Move through the world by combining a grappling hook, parachute, and wingsuit, or travel by land, sea, and air in a range of vehicles. Use weapons and gadgets to fight enemies, hijack vehicles, and tether objects together to set off improvised destruction.
Take on missions and challenges, discover collectibles, and destroy targets in bases, harbours, prisons, and other locations to liberate regions. Completing challenges earns gears used to unlock upgrades, while weapons and vehicles offer different ways to approach objectives.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its free-form destruction and the ways its grappling hook, parachute, and wingsuit make moving around Medici enjoyable in its own right. Reviews also value the freedom to approach bases creatively and simply explore or cause chaos outside the missions. Some players find that repeated objectives, awkward vehicle handling, or a thin story can detract from the experience.
