Broken Age

Vella is a village girl chosen for a sacrificial ceremony who refuses to accept her assigned fate. Shay is a restless boy living aboard a spaceship where an overprotective AI controls his daily life.

Play as either teenager and switch between their stories while exploring illustrated locations, talking with characters, and examining, collecting, and using objects. Progress comes from solving environmental and inventory-based puzzles.

The two storylines gradually intersect across the game's acts. Later puzzles can draw on information or actions from both characters, making switching between their adventures part of solving the challenges.

Players often praise the hand-painted art and animation, the two-protagonist story, and the voice performances; many also enjoy the humor and music. Some find the puzzles engaging, but a recurring complaint is that later challenges become obscure or demanding, with backtracking that can interrupt the story.
