You govern a Roman province during the empire’s rise, choosing one of five noble families, each with different abilities. A non-linear campaign of 40 missions follows a historical timeline across locations including Rome, Cyrene, and Lugdunum.
Build a working city by placing housing and buildings for production, leisure, religion, and administration. Plan around local resources and the areas buildings influence, while developing the economy, trading with other cultures, and meeting residents’ needs.
Research new options and defend your province in real-time battles against rival forces and barbarian tribes. Military units have distinct abilities, while naval warfare lets you transport troops and colonize islands.
Players who enjoy the game often praise the city-building, especially planning neighborhoods around resources and building influence areas, and watching a functioning city grow. Reviews also value the campaign’s missions and historical setting, with some appreciating the mix of city management and combat, including naval warfare. Opinions differ on difficulty, and several reviews report frustrating technical or mission-related problems.
