Lead one of 18 nations from the Ancient Age toward the Information Age in real-time strategy matches. Each nation has its own abilities and military units, and technological advancement transforms your forces from ancient infantry to modern ships, aircraft, and tanks.
Gather resources, grow cities, expand your territory, and build infrastructure while researching technologies. City borders shape which land and resources you can use; you can also construct Wonders of the World that grant your nation special bonuses.
Raise armies for land, sea, and air battles, or play through the Conquer the World campaign, a linked series of scenarios on a world map. The Extended Edition includes the Thrones and Patriots expansion, with additional campaigns and scenarios.
Players often praise the satisfying progression from ancient civilizations to modern warfare and the strategic depth of managing an expanding nation. Many describe it as a long-lasting favorite, with nostalgia, replayable matches, and playing with friends recurring in the reviews. Some also call out the soundtrack and the range of campaigns and scenarios. Criticism in this sample includes aging visuals and interface, as well as reports of multiplayer connection trouble and crashes.
