Planet Explorers is an open world sandbox adventure RPG game set on a distant planet. The game uses a new OpenCL calculated voxel system to allow players to change the terrain in any way, create new objects such as weapons, vehicles, objects, and do it anywhere.

In 2287, a colony ship crashes on the planet Maria. As one of the survivors, explore an unfamiliar world, gather resources, and work toward establishing a home amid dangerous local creatures and sentient aliens.
Dig into and reshape voxel terrain, build structures, farm, and craft equipment. A creation editor lets you design weapons, vehicles, and other objects, while exploration brings missions, NPCs, enemies, and varied landscapes.
Story Mode combines missions, colony building, farming, training, and interactions with aliens. Adventure Mode uses a procedurally generated map for random missions, bosses, and dungeons; Build Mode offers an enemy-free space with unlimited building materials.
Players who enjoy Planet Explorers often praise the freedom to design vehicles, weapons, and other creations, along with the mix of exploration, building, and survival activities. Some also value its world and its memorable, ambitious ideas. Recurring criticism focuses on the game feeling unfinished, with clunky systems and uneven pacing limiting those strengths.

| Multiplayer | Planet Explorers originally supported multiplayer, including story mode co-op and multiplayer adventure/build play with cooperative, versus, and survival rule sets. Reviews and the official description indicate private hosting, public servers, and official servers existed. Later reviews state multiplayer was permanently lost after a server/source-code loss, and the current version is effectively single-player only. |
| Multiplayer & mods | The game supports Steam Workshop and an in-game creation/editor system for sharing player-made vehicles, weapons, buildings, and objects. Reviews describe downloading and using other players' creations in multiplayer worlds, but no evidence states gameplay mods changed multiplayer rules beyond shared creations. |
