Classic Marathon

You play as a security officer aboard the UESC Marathon, a colony ship under attack by alien forces in the Tau Ceti system. Your duty is to defend the ship and its crew as you move through its corridors and other areas.

Explore large, interconnected levels, fight alien enemies, and complete objectives by finding routes, operating switches, and solving environmental puzzles. Combat calls for positioning and weapon management, while energy shields can be replenished at stations found along the way.

The story unfolds through text terminals scattered throughout the ship, where messages gradually reveal the events and characters behind the invasion. Saves are made at designated points rather than at any time, making progress between them part of the journey.

Players often highlight the terminal-based writing and sci-fi world, along with the tense atmosphere created by exploring dark, maze-like ship interiors. Some enjoy the deliberate combat and distinctive mechanics, while others find the levels and puzzles frustratingly hard to navigate.
