Aloy journeys into the Forbidden West, where storms and a spreading blight threaten life on Earth. She investigates the dangers, uncovers secrets of the ancient past, and seeks a way to restore balance while encountering new tribes and reuniting with allies.

Explore a large world of varied landscapes, settlements, and ruins. Travel on foot and through climbing, swimming, gliding, and machine flight as new traversal options become available; take on the main story, side quests, and other activities.

Combat centers on hunting machines: study their weaknesses and use bows, other weapons, elemental ammunition, traps, stealth, and melee. Develop Aloy's skills and upgrade weapons and outfits using resources. The Complete Edition also includes Burning Shores, an additional story set in a new area.

In this helpfulness-selected sample, reviewers often praise the striking, detailed environments and the variety of the machine encounters, especially the tactics involved in learning weaknesses and choosing weapons. Many enjoy exploring the world and its traversal options, and some value the continuing story and side quests. Others find the amount of side content repetitive, gear upgrades grindy, or the writing and pacing less engaging; these views are not shared by every reviewer.
