Epigenesis is a team-based, first-person ball sport set in an arena of platforms suspended high above the ground. Players race for a ball at the arena’s center and try to score against the opposing team.
Players use jumps and a gravity cannon to move through the arena, knock opponents off platforms, or push teammates forward. One-use abilities such as Grapple, Dash, and Shockwave, along with selectable plants and passive boosts, add tactical options.
Scoring awards a genetically modified seed that can be planted to capture a platform. Teams can connect captured towers into a route from their goal to the opponent’s; if neither team completes the route before time expires, the team with more scores wins. Bots are available for solo practice or to fill multiplayer matches.
The reviews that clearly describe Epigenesis praise its unusual first-person ball-sport concept, with one player especially enjoying fluid movement and coordinated matches. Those accounts also point to low player counts and a challenging movement learning curve; another describes the multiplayer game as long dead.
