Senua, a Celtic warrior who experiences psychosis, travels through 10th-century Viking Iceland to save people suffering under tyranny. Her perceptions, the voices she hears, and the uncertain boundary between myth and reality shape her journey.
Players follow a largely directed route through rugged environments, listening, observing, and searching for symbols or visual patterns that reveal paths. Environmental puzzles also use changes in light and surroundings, while optional collectibles reveal additional lore.
Combat centers on individual close-range duels, using light and heavy sword strikes, blocks and parries, dodges, and a Focus ability. The story alternates between exploration, puzzles, and fights, without a broad character-build or equipment progression system.
Players who enjoyed the game often praised its detailed visuals, immersive sound and atmosphere, and cinematic flow between story scenes and gameplay. Some also found Senua’s journey emotionally affecting and valued its psychological themes and performances. Other reviewers felt the linear exploration, simple combat and puzzles, and slow stretches left too little active gameplay; reactions to the story and its impact were mixed.
