From the makers of Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and DmC: Devil May Cry, comes a warrior’s brutal journey into myth and madness. Set in the Viking age, a broken Celtic warrior embarks on a haunting vision quest into Viking Hell to fight for the soul of her dead lover.

You play as Senua, a Celtic warrior who travels into Helheim, the Viking realm of the dead, on a quest connected to her deceased lover. Visions and voices shape what she perceives, making her journey both a passage through a mythic world and an intimate struggle with her own mind.
The third-person journey moves through largely linear environments, alternating exploration with environmental puzzles and combat. To open routes, you search for rune-like patterns in the scenery and use shifts in perspective and illusion to reveal paths or symbols. In fights, you face supernatural enemies with close-range attacks, blocks, and dodges.
Voices accompany Senua throughout the journey, sometimes commenting on events or offering cues, while sound and visual effects reflect her changing perception. The game focuses on its story and atmosphere rather than extensive character progression or a wide range of combat systems.
Many reviewers value the game as a personal, emotionally affecting story, and often single out its surrounding voices and sound design for drawing them into Senua’s perspective. The atmosphere, visuals, and lead performance also receive frequent praise. Some enjoy the close-range combat and environmental puzzles, while others find the puzzles repetitive, the pace slow, or the combat too simple.
