Set in an alternate-history 1943, Silent Storm puts you in command of a small squad carrying out covert missions behind enemy lines. Choose an Allied or Axis campaign and investigate a secret organization working amid the war. The Gold Edition also includes the Sentinels add-on, which follows a postwar group formed to oppose that organization.
Combat is turn-based, with action points governing movement and attacks. Positioning, line of sight, sound, cover, and weapon trajectories shape each encounter; soldiers can also aim at specific body parts. Missions can be approached through direct attacks or more tactical routes.
Recruit and develop soldiers with different classes and abilities, such as sniping, scouting, healing, and engineering. Use a range of weapons and explosives, and reshape battlefields by destroying walls, doors, floors, and other structures—opening routes, exposing enemies, or changing access to cover.
Many supplied reviewers praise the destructible environments and simulated combat, especially how destroying walls and floors creates new routes and attack angles. They also value the tactical flexibility of squad combat, weapon physics, and specialist soldiers. Some reviews, however, describe the game as slow or frustrating, and report bugs or crashes.
