You play as the last surviving Hydral, a member of a once-dominant species whose homeworld was destroyed. With a flagship and remnants of advanced Hydral technology, you try to unite—or destroy—the eight other alien civilizations in the solar system.
Each civilization develops its own territory, economy, technology, alliances, and conflicts. You can use diplomacy and political influence to support factions, disrupt rivals, shape trade, or provoke conflicts as you work toward a federation.
When conflicts call for direct action, you command your flagship in turn-based tactical battles. You can customize its equipment and manage systems such as weapons, shields, and energy; the game also offers a gradual introduction to its options and separate difficulty settings for strategy and combat.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its unusual political focus: building influence and uniting rival civilizations instead of simply expanding an empire. Positive reviews also call out the gradual introduction of options, humorous flavor text, and low-fi soundtrack. Reactions are mixed, with some players enjoying the strategic layer while finding the space combat fiddly or unappealing.
