You lead a spacefaring civilization from its homeworld into a procedurally generated galaxy. Choose one of six races or create a custom one, then explore star systems with survey ships and remote scans to uncover planets, resources, ruins, and other discoveries.
Expand by founding colonies and outposts, adapting planets through terraforming, and developing their economies. Research technologies and advance your culture along trees that can vary between games; leaders with their own traits and desires also shape your empire.
Design ships and resolve fleet conflicts in turn-based tactical combat, or pursue diplomacy through trade, treaties, and alliances. Espionage and military actions offer other ways to contend with rival empires, while configurable settings and victory conditions let you shape each campaign.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its classic turn-based space empire-building, especially the combination of galaxy exploration, colony development, ship design, and tactical fleet battles. Reviews also value the discoveries that emerge from scanning systems and the strategic variety of technology, culture, and customization. Some players find the interface or combat harder to read, and opinions differ on the game's pace and depth.
