At CHROME, the international spy-training center, familiar Cars characters including Mater and Lightning McQueen train for covert work. Players take on the role of a recruit completing missions and competing to become the fastest racer.
Races mix arcade driving with spy gadgets and combat against rivals. Other activities include hazardous missions and battle arenas, with stunts such as driving backwards, going on two wheels, sidestepping obstacles, and performing tricks in the air.
Progress unlocks characters, tracks, events, and further spy missions. The game offers single-player and multiplayer modes, with races and challenges set in locations around the world.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its arcade racing, spy-themed missions, and recognizable Cars characters, with nostalgia a recurring part of the appeal. Many reviews also say community mods improve the PC version, especially its visuals; others find the unmodified port disappointing or report technical and control problems.
