Vertical Drop Heroes is a procedural platformer RPG hybrid with roguelike elements, where your hero adventures through randomly generated stages. Armed with a variety of skills and traits, you must use your cunning and reflexes to survive the dangers of each stage.

You guide a hero downward through a series of procedurally generated stages, aiming to survive long enough to face the final boss. Each run begins with a randomly selected hero and a different mix of skills and traits.
Platforming and combat are built around navigating hazards and choosing how to handle enemies. Skills have multiple uses, terrain can be destroyed, and players can take on fights or avoid them for pacifist bonuses.
Gold and other rewards support progression between runs, with persistent upgrades alongside cheaper temporary ones. The game also supports local split-screen and local network co-op.
Players who enjoy the game point to the varied hero abilities and traits as a source of surprise, and to short runs that get to interesting situations quickly. One review highlights pacifist rewards as a tactic that changes how they approach levels; others describe it as fun to relax with or enjoyable in co-op. Some players, however, found the combat shallow or the stages repetitive.
