Way of the Samurai 4 takes place in the humble port town of Amihama during the mid 19th Century, several years after the arrival of the “black ships” from the West ended Japan’s long history of cultural isolation.

You play a masterless samurai arriving in Amihama, a Japanese port town caught between the shogunate, isolationist rebels, and foreign reformers. Choose whom to support, switch allegiances when possible, or make your own way through the conflict.
Explore the town, take on story events and side activities, and fight with swords or other weapons. Combat uses different stances and moves, while activities include duels, jobs, training, and running a dojo.
The story unfolds in short, time-limited cycles, with choices leading to different events and endings. Replaying lets you explore other routes, while collecting and improving weapons and learning moves give you new options in combat.
In the supplied reviews, players who enjoy the game often praise its branching choices and replayable story, along with weapon and fighting-style customization and its offbeat humor. Some also appreciate the town activities and character interactions. Many reviews, however, report difficulty launching the PC version or crashes during play, so the experience described is notably mixed.
