Set in the 1930s, Mafia follows cabdriver Tommy Angelo after a chance encounter draws him into the Salieri crime family. As he rises through its ranks, he takes on increasingly serious criminal work.
The campaign unfolds across more than 20 missions, mixing driving and car chases with shootouts, mob hits, bootlegging, and robberies. Missions move between on-foot action and journeys through the city in period-inspired cars.
Lost Heaven provides the backdrop for the campaign and its travel between jobs. Traffic rules and police enforcement can affect driving, while Tommy's progress brings access to more cars and weapons. Free Ride and Free Ride Extreme offer separate driving and challenge modes.
In the supplied reviews, players often praise the crime story, memorable characters, and the atmosphere of 1930s Lost Heaven; some also highlight the missions, cars, and music. Others find the controls, combat, and certain challenges dated or frustrating.
