You control Agent 47 in a series of tabletop-style missions, moving him along fixed paths across miniature diorama boards. The aim is to reach an exit or eliminate a designated target while avoiding detection.

Each move advances the guards according to their patterns, so you must study their routes and plan your steps. Distractions, disguises, hiding spots, secret passages, and weapons such as sniper rifles can help you navigate or take out enemies.

New enemy types and mechanics appear as you progress. Levels also offer optional goals, such as collecting a briefcase, avoiding kills, eliminating every enemy, or finishing within a move limit, giving you reasons to replay and plan a different route.

Many reviewers enjoy the turn-based puzzles for making them plan around enemy patterns, and praise the distinctive miniature-board presentation. Some also like the relaxed pace and short-session format, while others find the puzzles overly restrictive or the PC controls frustrating.
