You play a genetically engineered mercenary awakened from cryostasis after a disaster aboard a colony ship. As a disease called the Phage spreads and galactic powers compete for control, you assemble a crew and choose whether to pursue the main story, work for factions, or chart your own course.
Lead a squad through stations, ruins, caves, and planetary bases in turn-based ground battles. Recruit mercenaries and develop them without fixed classes: skills improve through use, while attributes, perks, weapons, armor, and craftable gear let you shape each crew member.
Travel between star systems, outfit ships for different roles, and take on activities such as bounties, planet scans, asteroid mining, and commodity trading. You can also disable and board hostile ships, while ship-to-ship combat takes place in real time.
Players who enjoy the game often value its open-ended galaxy, mix of ground and space activities, and freedom to develop a crew and ship at their own pace.
