The Last Warlord is a Turn-based strategy game. The game is based on the famous Chinese historical novel. The Three Kingdoms (A.D. 190 – 280) was the tripartite division of China between the states of Wei, Shu, and Wu.

Set during the Three Kingdoms era, the game puts you in charge of a ruler and their faction as rival states vie for control of China. You govern cities and direct a roster of historical and fictional officers, each with distinct abilities.
Develop your territory through administration, personnel decisions, searches, research, and military preparations. You can manage smaller cities automatically or by policy, while diplomacy and political schemes let you negotiate with rivals, recruit officers, and disrupt competing factions.
War uses turn-based battles in which terrain, elevation, and climate affect the contest. Field battles and sieges have separate formats, with options for manual or automatic combat and units ranging from basic forces to specialized troops and siege engines. Editors let you create officers, rulers, and custom scenarios.
Some players enjoy the strategic management, layered systems, officer roster, and opportunities to create custom characters and scenarios. Others describe the interface and tutorials as confusing, report rough translations and crashes, and frequently object to paid DLC features and content.
