You play as Karl Fairburne, an elite sniper sent to Berlin during the final days of World War II. His mission is to keep V2 rocket technology from the Red Army, help key scientists defect to the United States, and eliminate those who stand in the way.
Missions combine third-person shooting, stealth, and careful positioning. Scout enemies, choose a firing point, and account for distance, wind, and bullet drop; loud environmental sounds can mask rifle shots. You can also use a silenced pistol, distractions, traps, explosives, and other weapons, though encounters may lead to open firefights.
The campaign moves through a series of objective-based missions, with additional DLC missions and challenge levels included. The remaster adds updated visuals, a photo mode, and playable characters for campaign and multiplayer; co-op and competitive multiplayer modes are also available.
Players who enjoy the game often single out the precise, patient sniper shooting and the slow-motion X-ray kill cam, along with the atmosphere of ruined Berlin. Some also appreciate planning shots around distance, wind, and sound. Recurring criticisms describe the enemy AI as inconsistent, movement and close-range combat as clunky, and stealth or mission routes as limited; several players also feel the remaster changes little beyond its visual updates.
