Set during the French Revolution, the game casts you as a judge on the Revolutionary Tribunal. You preside over cases involving ordinary citizens, criminals, and political enemies while trying to protect your position and your family.
For each trial, you read reports, examine evidence, question witnesses, and connect case details to decide what questions to ask. You then write up the case and pass sentence, with judgments affecting your standing among competing groups.
Between trials, you manage family relationships, make political allies or enemies, assign tasks to agents, and give speeches. The story also brings in map-based political maneuvering and turn-based tactics as it progresses.
Players who enjoy the game often point to its unusual judge-in-revolution premise, tense French Revolution setting, distinctive art, and the appeal of investigating cases and navigating political intrigue. Some find the trials and choices absorbing, while recurring criticisms describe parts of the case and persuasion systems as unclear or unpredictable, and some players feel later sections shift away from the courtroom or limit the impact of earlier choices. Several reviews also report very small or difficult-to-read text in some localized versions.
