Sid Meier's Civilization IV®: Beyond the Sword is the second expansion pack for Civilization IV - the 2005 PC Game of the Year that has become a worldwide hit.
Developed by Firaxis Games · Published by 2K

Beyond the Sword expands Civilization IV's turn-based empire strategy, placing you in charge of a civilization competing for power across a historical timeline that emphasizes the eras after gunpowder. Develop cities, research technologies, manage resources, and deal with rival civilizations through diplomacy or warfare.
The expansion adds ten civilizations, sixteen leaders, new units, buildings, technologies, and wonders, along with eleven scenarios. Its later-game systems include corporations that spread in exchange for resource-based benefits, espionage to disrupt or defend against rivals, and random events that can challenge your plans.
Pursue different routes to victory, including an expanded race to Alpha Centauri and earlier diplomatic opportunities through the Apostolic Palace. Advanced Starts let you assemble an empire and begin later in the game, while new diplomatic resolutions and an enhanced AI add further strategic considerations.
In the supplied reviews, players often enjoy the depth of empire-management decisions, the challenge posed by rival AI, and the variety that keeps campaigns replayable. Many also highlight extensive mod support and the era-changing soundtrack. Some describe the graphics and interface as dated; a smaller number mention frustrating combat outcomes, late-game lulls, or multiplayer desynchronization.
