You play as a Scribe defending books from the Torn, battling through fantasy storybooks and returning between adventures to the Illuminated Library. Runs can be played solo or with other Scribes.
Choose a colored Ink that defines a combat style, then combine spells for generating and spending mana with a movement skill and class ability. During a run, Pages of Power add upgrades that can reshape your abilities, while you choose how enemies evolve.
Each Tome offers its own rules and sequence of combat encounters, with interludes and other activities between fights. Research talents in the Library to strengthen your Scribe, unlock more options, raise the challenge with Bindings, or take on boss-focused raids.
Players frequently praise the range of builds created by combining Inks, spells, and upgrades, as well as the variety this brings to runs. Many also enjoy playing co-op, the playful literary theme and art, and the distinct encounters across books and raids. Raid bosses are a highlight for some, while others find their mechanics and visual effects overwhelming.
