Set on the Eastern Front in 1944, Steel Division 2 puts you in command of forces taking part in Operation Bagration. In its turn-based Dynamic Strategic Campaigns, you direct battalions across a large strategic map, manage their movement and supplies, and decide which forces to send into battle.
Battles play out in real time, with you selecting a division and assembling battlegroups from its available units. Deploy infantry, tanks, artillery, aircraft, and other forces across varied terrain, then coordinate their actions to contest objectives and push the front line.
You can fight tactical battles directly or use autoresolve in campaigns. The game also offers skirmishes, historical battles, cooperative play, and online matches, including large 10v10 battles. Its deck-building system lets you shape battlegroups around different divisions and unit choices.
In this review sample, players who enjoy Steel Division 2 often value its large-scale WWII battles, detailed variety of divisions and units, and the strategic choices in its Army General campaigns. Some also praise cooperative play and the depth that emerges once they learn the systems. Criticism frequently focuses on uneven single-player AI, the learning curve, and a comparatively quiet multiplayer scene; views on the campaigns and balance vary.
