When a new criminal group takes hold of Wood Oak City, returning fighters Axel, Blaze and Adam join newer heroes to take on its street gangs. Streets of Rage 4 is a hand-drawn, side-scrolling beat ’em up that can be played solo or in co-op.
Fight through stages using punches, kicks, throws and character-specific moves. Build combos by launching enemies and keeping attacks going; special moves spend health that can be regained by landing hits without being struck. Stage scores reward fast clears and sustained combos.
Complete the campaign to unlock additional playable fighters, including retro versions of characters from earlier games. Other modes include Arcade, head-to-head Battle and Boss Rush; Survival adds successive fights and selectable power-ups.
Players often praise the satisfying, combo-focused combat and the variety of fighters, while longtime fans especially enjoy its revival of the series’ familiar style.
