You play as Jimmy Hopkins, a 15-year-old sent to Bullworth Academy, where he gets caught up in the rivalries between the school's social groups. Story missions follow his efforts to navigate the hierarchy, with the academy and surrounding town available to explore.
Between missions, you can attend classes presented as mini-games, pull pranks, take on side activities, and get into fights using moves and items such as a slingshot. Classes and other tasks can unlock rewards, including new fighting moves and items.
Progress through the story opens up more of Bullworth and brings new activities and encounters. Respect with the different groups affects how they treat Jimmy, while bikes and go-karts provide ways to get around or take part in races.
Players often enjoy Bully's unusual school setting, the range of things to do between missions, and its humorous take on school cliques. Reviews also praise its characters, story, and soundtrack, with nostalgia a recurring part of the game's appeal. Many of these positive comments come alongside complaints about crashes and other problems with the PC version.
