High school student Ayumi Shinozaki and her friends are transported to an alternate version of Heavenly Host Elementary after a friendship ritual goes wrong. Trapped in the school, they face the spirits of murdered children and investigate the tragedy behind the building.
Players explore the school, inspect rooms and objects, collect key items, and trigger events to advance the story. There is no combat; survival instead depends on investigation, choices, and responding to threats as they arise.
The story unfolds across five main chapters, with choices and specific actions able to lead to alternate or wrong endings. The 2021 edition also includes 16 extra chapters, while its pixel-art presentation is paired with Japanese voice acting and spatial sound.
