Engineer Isaac Clarke arrives aboard the mining ship USG Ishimura on a repair mission and searches for his missing partner, Nicole, after finding the ship in chaos. As he encounters hostile creatures and scattered survivors, he pieces together what happened aboard the vessel.
Explore the ship, restore its systems, and fight Necromorphs with repurposed engineering tools. Combat rewards precise shots that sever limbs rather than conventional headshots; Isaac can also use his abilities and the environment to control threats while managing ammunition and other supplies.
The Ishimura is an interconnected space that can be revisited as new access becomes available. Find logs, meet survivors, and take on optional objectives that add to the story, while upgrading Isaac’s tools and equipment to improve his chances of survival.
Players often praise the remake for preserving the original’s survival-horror feel while updating its presentation and systems. Recurring highlights include the tense, detailed Ishimura and its sound design, strategic limb-severing combat, and the connected ship that supports exploration and backtracking. Some also appreciate the expanded story and Isaac’s voice, while a number of reviews report PC stuttering or other performance problems.
