After transferring to Gekkoukan High School, you encounter the Dark Hour, a hidden period when Shadows threaten the city. As a member of a group that confronts them, you investigate the mystery while choosing to play as one of two protagonists.

The year alternates between school life and exploring Tartarus, a towering dungeon filled with Shadows. Turn-based battles let you use Personas against enemies, and you can develop and fuse Personas as you progress.

Plan your time across the school calendar by attending daily events and building relationships with other characters. The two protagonists have different dialogue and social opportunities, giving each route its own take on the year.

Players often praise the story, characters, soundtrack, and social links, with many especially valuing the female protagonist’s distinct route and added character relationships. Some also enjoy the turn-based battles and Persona-fusion systems. Recurring complaints focus on the PC port’s upscaled backgrounds and compressed audio, while Tartarus and the visual-novel-style presentation outside dungeons are divisive.
