You play as the Boss of the Saints, now President of the United States, as an alien invasion puts Earth in danger. Much of the action takes place in a simulated version of Steelport, where you and your allies work to resist the alien empire and free captured friends.
Take on story missions and open-world activities, fighting alien forces with guns, unusual weapons, and superpowers. Super-speed, high jumps, gliding, and offensive abilities let you move through the city and engage enemies in ways that differ from a conventional driving-focused open world.
Progress by unlocking and upgrading abilities, while customizing your character, clothing, and weapons. The game supports solo play and co-op, and its story missions sometimes shift into other gameplay styles, including side-scrolling combat.
Players who enjoy the game often highlight the freedom and speed of its superpowered movement, its absurd humor and pop-culture references, and missions that occasionally switch up their format. Some also appreciate the character customization and soundtrack. Views on the powers are mixed: some find them exhilarating, while others feel they make vehicles less useful or disrupt the familiar Saints Row formula. Many supplied reviews report PC stability problems and unwanted Epic account or launcher prompts, while co-op disconnects and crashes are recurring complaints.

| Multiplayer | The store page lists Single-player, Online Co-op, Cross-Platform Multiplayer, Multiplayer, and Online Co-Op tags/features. Multiple reviews state the game supports 2-player online co-op, including drop-in/drop-out play, and that the full campaign or most of the game can be played together. Reviews consistently describe co-op as peer-to-peer and frequently unstable, with disconnects, crashes, lag, and checkpoint issues. |
| Multiplayer & mods | Steam Workshop is supported. Reviews state mods/workshop items can cause crashes in co-op and players should use the same mods/workshop items when playing together. One review mentions a 3rd-party mod for character server emulation related to an achievement, not core multiplayer. |
