Play as Nathan “R.A.D.” Spencer on his first mission: rescue captured agent Super Joe from the Imperials. Spencer cannot jump; he uses a bionic arm to grapple, swing, and move through a 2.5D side-scrolling campaign.
Use the arm to cross gaps and navigate hazards while shooting enemies with a range of weapons. The campaign also includes top-down stages, enemy-computer hacking, and boss encounters that put grappling and combat to use.
The remake adds bionic-arm abilities, weapons, and larger bosses. Optional Challenge Rooms focus on obstacle courses and swing puzzles, with times ranked online; local modes support two-player co-op and competitive matches for up to four players.
Players who enjoy the game often praise the unusual grappling-based movement, especially once its timing and controls become familiar. Reviews also appreciate the remake’s connection to the NES original, its reworked soundtrack, and the satisfaction of learning boss patterns or mastering challenge courses. Some also enjoy playing the campaign cooperatively with a friend.
