A prison escape draws you into a search for the heir to the throne as dangerous gates open across Cyrodiil. You can follow the main quest or leave it aside to explore the province and find your own objectives.
Travel between cities, wilderness, caves, forts, and other dungeons while taking on main and optional quests. Fight with first-person melee, bows, or magic, and pursue storylines tied to groups such as the Mages, Fighters, and Thieves Guilds.
Build a character by choosing a race, birth sign, and specialization, then develop attributes and skills as you play. The Game of the Year Edition also includes the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions, with additional questlines and lands to explore.
In this selected sample, players often praise the freedom to explore Cyrodiil, the atmosphere and music, and the variety of side and faction questlines. Some also enjoy experimenting with character builds and mods. Criticism recurs around level scaling, repetitive dungeons, dated menus and visuals, and technical rough edges.
