You play as a lone marine fighting demonic forces across DOOM and DOOM II. The collection also includes campaigns and episodes such as TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, SIGIL, and Legacy of Rust.
Move quickly through maze-like levels, shoot demons with a varied arsenal, find keys to open routes, and search for hidden areas. Enemy encounters and level layouts call for movement, combat choices, and exploration.
Across its included campaigns and add-ons, the collection offers 187 mission maps and 43 deathmatch maps. It supports solo play, co-op and deathmatch, community mods through an in-game browser, and a choice of classic or modernized soundtracks.
Players often praise the fast movement and satisfying combat, along with the straightforward focus on fighting demons. Reviews also highlight memorable level layouts, secrets, music, and the large range of included episodes and community mods. Some players find navigation and backtracking frustrating, especially in certain add-on levels, and note that the original controls lack vertical aiming.
