You play as the lone DOOM Marine, awakened during a demonic outbreak at a Union Aerospace Corporation research facility on Mars. The campaign sends you through the facility and into Hell to fight the invading demons.
Combat rewards constant movement and aggressive attacks rather than taking cover. You use a broad arsenal and weapon upgrades, finish weakened demons to recover health, and use the chainsaw to replenish ammunition.
Explore combat arenas for secrets, collectibles, upgrades, and challenges that unlock passive rune abilities. Outside the campaign, SnapMap lets players create and share maps and modes, while multiplayer offers arena battles and opportunities to play as a demon.
Players often praise the campaign’s fast, aggressive combat, satisfying weapons, and movement, along with a heavy-metal soundtrack that complements the action. Many also enjoy exploring for secrets and upgrades. Some reviewers find the combat repetitive or the story slight, and several criticize map navigation or multiplayer achievements and matchmaking.

| Multiplayer | DOOM includes single-player, competitive online multiplayer, and SnapMap user-created content that can be shared and played with others. The official description states players can compete with friends in numerous multiplayer modes and share creations with friends or players around the world. Reviews consistently describe the main multiplayer as PvP arena combat; some reviews also claim online co-op outside the story, likely via SnapMap, but this is not confirmed by the official store text. |
| Multiplayer & mods | SnapMap allows players to create, play, and share custom maps and modes. It expands multiplayer-adjacent play with user-made content, but the provided text does not confirm traditional multiplayer mod support beyond SnapMap creations. |
