Hell’s forces have overrun Earth, and you play as the Doom Slayer, fighting demons across the campaign to stop the threat to humanity. The game is a single-player, first-person shooter focused on direct combat.

Fights reward constant movement and quick decisions. Switch weapons to suit different enemies, and use Glory Kills for health, the shoulder-mounted flamethrower for armor, and the chainsaw for ammunition. Guns, mods, equipment, and abilities expand your options.

Between arenas, jump, dash, climb, explore levels, and search for secrets and collectibles. The game also includes Battlemode, a 2-versus-1 multiplayer mode in which a Slayer faces two player-controlled demons in best-of-five matches.

Players often praise the fast, demanding combat, especially the way movement, weapon switching, and resource recovery combine into a fluid fight once the systems click. The soundtrack is another recurring favorite, while some players enjoy exploring levels and finding secrets. Others find the resource and weapon-management demands restrictive, dislike the platforming or difficulty, or object to the separate Bethesda account requirement for single-player.
