Hate Plus is a visual novel sequel set aboard a derelict generation ship. As a data-recovery investigator, you work with an AI companion to uncover what happened to the ship’s society.
The story unfolds through ship records written by people from different parts of that society, alongside conversations and reactions from the AI. You can consult character profiles as you piece together the history.
Progress is divided across three days, with timed intervals between some story segments. Your reading and choices shape the route through the story; the game also includes cake-baking and multiple endings.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its story and generation-ship setting, the history revealed through its records, and the AI characters. Some also appreciate the soundtrack and the way choices from the previous game can carry over. Criticism focuses on the real-time waits, the text-heavy presentation and scrolling, and an achievement several reviewers describe as unobtainable.
