You follow Rintaro Okabe, a tech-minded student who leads a small group of friends in Akihabara. After one of their inventions unexpectedly sends messages to the past, their experiments begin to alter history as larger forces emerge.
This text-based adventure is read through story scenes and character conversations. You use Okabe’s phone to receive calls and messages, choose whether and how to reply, and follow the consequences of those decisions.
Choices lead to branching worldlines and multiple endings. An Observer feature displays story events and timeline branches; the reboot also adds scenarios, including a route for Moeka, alongside redrawn artwork and animated character portraits.
Players who enjoyed the game often praise the underlying time-travel story and its cast, and describe revisiting it as emotional or nostalgic.
