You guide the Batter, a man pursuing a sacred mission to purify a strange, troubled world. The Judge, a grinning cat, accompanies him as he travels through its zones and encounters their inhabitants.
Explore each area, speak with its residents, solve puzzles, and fight specters and other hostile foes. The world’s industrial zones are shaped by unusual materials such as smoke, metal, plastic, meat, and sugar.
Combat is turn-based, with actions governed by cooldowns. The Batter can use attacks, special abilities, defenses, and items, while battle-only allies provide support. Optional hidden bosses offer additional encounters.
Players often praise OFF’s strange, unsettling world, memorable art, and story that leaves moral questions and mysteries open to interpretation. Many also enjoy the music and the updated presentation, while opinions differ on how the new soundtrack compares with the original. Some appreciate the revised combat and added bosses; others find battles repetitive or puzzles opaque.

All of them appear, it must be said, to require the beneficient application of our friend the Batter’s muscular wrist. Do not worry, my dear phantasm—I, the Judge, will be with you (in spirit and body) at all the most crucial moments of your quest.
How dare you talk to me? Why have you decided to be such a pain in my ass? The Queen chose me to protect Zone 1, and I've dedicated my whole life to it.
