Cobalt follows a cyborg exploring a remote colony and searching for answers about what happened to the humans. Hostile robots, puzzles, boss fights, and tameable pets feature in the story, which can be played solo or in local co-op.
Fight and platform through side-scrolling stages using ranged and melee weapons, shields, and customizable equipment. Combat rolls can deflect projectiles, while automatic slow motion lets you react to attacks and set up precise shots or maneuvers.
Beyond the story, play Survival rounds with equipment upgrades between waves, take on combat and speed challenges, or compete in modes such as Deathmatch, Team Strike, and Plug Slam. Local and online multiplayer, leaderboards, and a level editor add other ways to play.
Reviewers often enjoy Cobalt’s unusual slow-motion and projectile-deflection combat, along with its local multiplayer, range of modes, and replayable content. Some describe the story as entertaining, while others find the movement takes time to learn or the game suits a particular niche. A few also note that online play is largely inactive or criticize the shop and weapon balance.
