You play a Grey Warden in Ferelden, where an approaching Blight and civil war threaten to divide the kingdom. Create a protagonist with one of six origin stories, then recruit allies as you work to unite the region and confront the archdemon.
Travel through settlements and other regions, take on quests, and speak with companions and NPCs. Your moral and political decisions affect relationships and story outcomes, while companions bring personal histories and possible romances.
Build and develop a party of four, choosing classes, skills, and abilities. Combat runs in real time but can be paused to issue orders and plan your party’s actions. The Ultimate Edition also includes the Awakening expansion, set in Amaranthine, and nine content packs with additional stories, characters, and rewards.
Across the supplied reviews, recurring praise focuses on the companions and their dialogue, the story and setting, and decisions that shape events. Players also appreciate planning party combat and developing different character builds, though some find the combat dated or slow. Technical experiences vary, but many reviewers report crashes on modern PCs and say extra fixes or setup are needed.
