The Fox Vanishes: The Mystery of Mistveil

From the Devs

STORY

Writer Wang Ran has been having a run of bad luck lately.

His wallet is gone, his new book is making no progress, and an inexplicable restlessness keeps gnawing at him.

What he cannot let go of even more is the girl named Hu Li — since the last time they parted, she has vanished without a trace.

Following the few clues he has, Wang Ran heads deep into the mountains.

A village shrouded in thick fog all year round appears before him.

The people here worship the Immortals of their own families —

the Fox Immortal, the White Immortal, the Willow Immortal... and a higher deity known as Mist Granny.

Here, an ancient rite known as the Rite of Sui-Banishing is being held.

Wang Ran had only wanted to find Hu Li and leave.

But once he becomes the Avatar of the White Immortal, there is no turning back.

When night falls, the being known as Sui begins to kill.

By day, the relationships torn apart by suspicion prove even deadlier than the night.

And Hu Li, whose whereabouts can never be found, seems bound to it all by countless hidden threads.

The fog grows thicker and thicker.

Who will still be alive when the rite comes to an end?

CHARACTER

Wang Ran (Protagonist)

A struggling novelist.

Because he lost his wallet, his journey starts badly — and he soon realizes that this was merely the beginning of his troubles.

Swept up in the village's rite, he must choose again and again between protecting others and saving himself.

Demon Rose

An uninvited witch.

From a distant city, she reads Wang Ran's manuscript through some special means.

Harsh yet precise, she is the sternest reader — and perhaps the most clear-sighted onlooker.

Bai Yu

Daughter of the Bai family.

Hot-tempered and sharp-tongued, she never gives anyone a pleasant face — yet she is the one who reveals the village's deepest secrets to Wang Ran.

Behind the half of her face she keeps hidden lies a failed past.

Hui Xiaoman

Daughter of the Hui family.

She always keeps her head down and stumbles over her words, as if afraid of everyone.

But at the rite's most critical moment, you will see a completely different side of her.

Qing Yi

The Shrine Maiden presiding over this rite.

Dignified in manner and measured in speech, she never lets a single superfluous emotion slip.

Every decision she makes seems carefully calculated — the question is, what is she really calculating?

Gu Shanzi

A young man of the village who tends to everyone's daily needs.

Taciturn and never one to defend himself — even when everyone suspects him of being Sui.
