Devil May Cry HD Collection brings together three single-player action games centered on demon hunter Dante. The first follows his fight against the underworld’s ruler, the second takes place decades later and adds Lucia as a playable character, and the third is a prequel introducing Dante’s twin brother, Vergil.
Across the games, players explore stages and fight demons and bosses using melee weapons and firearms. Combining attacks, switching between close and ranged combat, and learning enemy patterns are central to battles. The first game also emphasizes exploration in gothic settings, while the second adds moves such as wall running.
Each game has its own progression and features. Players can improve abilities as they advance, and Devil May Cry 3 lets Dante choose and level up combat styles to gain new moves; its Special Edition also includes Vergil as a playable character. Devil May Cry 2 introduces the Bloody Palace bonus mode.
In the supplied reviews, Devil May Cry 3’s flexible combat, weapon choices, styles, challenging bosses, and soundtrack are frequent sources of enjoyment. Reviewers also praise the first game’s gothic atmosphere and satisfying fights. Opinions on Devil May Cry 2 vary, but many criticize its easy, gun-focused combat and subdued story, while some still find it worth playing as part of the collection.
